Finding the right wedding photographer is crucial for capturing all the special moments of your day and telling your unique story. With various photography styles to choose from, it's important to find someone who understands your vision and can match your style. The key to getting the perfect shots is finding a photographer who is the perfect fit for you. Take the time to research and meet with potential photographers to ensure that you find the right one for your needs.
I recently had the opportunity to speak with Christina Astore, a traveling photographer based in Florida, about wedding photography. I asked for her advice for both photographers and clients seeking photographers.
Christina specializes in capturing intimate weddings, elopements, anniversaries, honeymoons, and more. She has a passion for photography and is grateful for the chance to document beautiful moments. Christina's range includes portraits, family outings, and friend trips in addition to her work with weddings.
How would you describe your photography style?
"I would describe my style as vibrant and depicting movement. I always enjoy photos that are sharp and that are not cookie cutter. I do my best to ensure that the way I frame my shots are unique and different. I go for the "wow" factor, or for taking photographs that make people look twice."
What’s your favorite shot to capture at weddings?
"This answer has changed over the years for me, but right now it's definitely the subtle moments of the bride and groom's parents. For example, the father of the bride seeing her for the first time, or the mother helping the bride put the finishing touches to her ensemble. These are some of life's most cherished moments, and I am grateful to be trusted enough to capture them."
What advice would you give to someone looking to find a wedding photographer?
"I definitely think that couples should put an emphasis on finding a photographer who is personable, who takes the time to get to know you and what your overall vision is for your day. In other words, you want to "vibe" with your photographer. You want to cherish the same moments and details that they do, and that way you'll know that everyone is on the same page come wedding day. Also, find someone who truly sees it as a celebration and not just another paid gig!"
What advice would you give to aspiring wedding photographers?
"The more you shoot, the more you'll learn. Start by shadowing a few times, then invest in some solid wedding gear. The more weddings you photograph, the more comfortable you'll be in a high intensity setting. Everyone starts somewhere. Take the first step and be ready to learn every time. Patience and trial and error will take you far!"
What can people do to help you during a shoot?
"I always make sure to be briefed on the wedding timeline as well as make sure I have all necessary contacts I could need so that if anything changes, no one needs to stress! You can almost always count on the timeline not going 100% as planned. That being said, I cannot express how important it is to know and trust your photographer!"
All in all, Christina finds building a relationship and understanding with your photographer is what will lead to a great shoot! Below you can see some of my favorite wedding shots Christina has taken. I personally love the use of subtle orange tones throughout her work. It contrasts beautifully with the white of the dresses. You can also see the emotion she has captured in her work, which is one of the most important aspects of photography in my opinion.
